IT’S FREAKIN’ COOOOLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- by Annnnnaaa!!!!!

IT IS SOOO FREAKIN’ COLD IN NEPAL!!!

It was three weeks of 6 hours of electricity a day. Which means no heater when it’s 40 degrees Fahrenheit in the day and 10 degrees at night, no indoor toilets, all the food was was rice and lentil soup (Dal Bhat), no hot showers (I showered twice in the entire 3 weeks), and pointless up and downs for 6-7 hours every, single, day.

On the point of 6 hours of electricity every day, you can never charge your phones, computers, or kindles. And the odds are very slim of you actually being at the hotel/lodge within those 6 hours.

When there’s no heater and you’re not walking it gets FREAKIN’ COLD. So you either sit by the fire in the main room or in your sleeping bag.  You go to sleep at around 7 every night because you’re in your sleeping bag and none of the electronics are charged so all you can do is sleep (of course Caleb had charge because he had his charger “brick” and he wouldn’t let anyone else use it so he got all the power to himself).  And since there are no indoor toilets, if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night you have to get all dressed up in like 5 layers and get a flashlight because there is no light… because there’s no electricity. You know it’s cold when you go to the bathroom and you see steam coming out of the squat toilet beneath you.

Since there are no hot showers I only showered twice in the 3 weeks we were in Nepal. One of the times I did shower was when we got to the hot springs (day 6 of the trek). Everyone else took probably 5 showers in the 3 weeks because they will actually take cold showers.  I think they’re absolutely crazy.  The lodges (not hotels) if you tell them like 20 mins before you want to take a shower they will boil a bucket of water for you. So you are in a freezing cold room with concrete floors (you have to wear flip flops when you take a shower) and a bucket of hot water on the floor and cold water coming out of a faucet.  You have another little bucket to scoop the water onto yourself, but you can’t just scoop hot water straight onto you cause you’ll burn yourself. So you have to get it like half full of hot water and then put cold water in. And you have to do this over and over again because the small bucket only holds like 2 cups of water so, yeah, it is very cold.  I did that once because mom made me, but after that I was like “never again”.

I have not brushed my hair fewer than 5 days apart over the last month because we could never find the hair brush, and even now that we are back in Europe I am too lazy to get it out of the bags. So that is the story of how my personal hygiene went down the drain. –SLaff

P.S. – I am going to put a really stupid (stupid, yes but true) story at the end of this. So I’m sitting by the fire in the main room of the lodge and this cat (see picture below) comes over and sits on my lap with it’s head on my arm. And after about half a hour my hands start to get hot because they are so close to the fire but I won’t move them because the cat is sitting on them. And that is the story of how I burned my hands (see picture below) because I would not disturb the cute kitty cat.

P.P.S. – Despite all the misery, the views were AMAZING!!  I really did have lots of fun!!

P.P.P.S. – My dad is writing a more sophisticated version of the trek story.  That doesn’t mean it will be better than mine though!

Hahaha, I bet you smelled RIPE. You’ll have to take a vacation with me sometimes. My idea of “roughing it” is “no room service after 10.” 🙂

Glad you had fun anyway! You’re a trooper!
