Our first experience on The Great Wall occurred in Mutianyu on day 49 — and it was majestic. Our second Great Wall experience a few days later was death defying. I will let one of the kids write about that since I want to relive it as little as possible. Here are a few pictures from our day in Mutianyu.
Waiting for the city bus in Sanduhe Village. People constantly stopped to offer us rides (for a price). We stuck with the bus for 2 yuan (approximately 35 cents) each.
Our first glimpse of the wall in the distance.
Gondola ride up.
China rates all their attractions (and restrooms).
A beautiful setting for a snack break.
It seems to go on forever. Anna, Caleb, Genny, and Marcy waiting for me and Andrew to catch up.
Genny appreciating the view from a watchtower window.
The kids are always in the lead. More views of the surrounding mountains.
The kids thought they needed a little run between all the stair climbing.
Taking a much needed breather. The stair climbing was a real workout!
Spectacular!
In case hiking, running, and climbing stairs is not enough of a workout, Caleb throws in a few push-ups to round things out.
Beautiful views at every turn.
Andrew and Anna
Genny, Marcy, and I waiting for the others the catch up. We beat them up all those steps!!! Ha! In reality, they walked up this flight of steps then saw people on top of the watchtower we had just passed. Andrew good-naturedly followed them back and took the following pictures — my favorites of the day.
Anna on top of the world!!!!
Caleb has conquered the wall!!!
What a day!!! So happy to be checking things off my bucket list with these two!!!
